The Al-Ko lateral friction lining set is a custom-fit spare part for various safety couplings in the AKS series and ensures that your trailer coupling functions safely. It is specially designed for the AKS 2000, AKS 2004, AKS 3004 and AKS 3504 coupling models and offers a reliable way of replacing worn friction linings to optimise the stability and handling of the trailer combination. The scope of delivery includes two lateral friction linings with pressure bolts, each with a diameter of approx. 32 mm and a thickness of approx. 9 mm. The set also includes six metal spacer discs to optimise the contact pressure. Two plugs for the bolt openings ensure a secure seal after installation. Detailed installation instructions are included to ensure problem-free installation. The friction lining set corresponds to Al-Ko reference number 1220755 and impresses with its precise fit and high-quality workmanship. It helps to sustainably improve the clutch function and driving safety.
Frequently asked questions about this product
Ball head on the towing vehicle: The new ball head has a diameter of 50 mm; the wear limit is 49 mm. Measure in several directions using a calliper — the ball wears down in an oval shape, and even a single point measuring less than 49 mm means it needs replacing.
Tow ball coupling on the trailer: Signs include noticeable play on the ball, rattling whilst driving, or a coupling that no longer engages properly. Many couplings have a wear indicator on the handle — if the pointer is in the red zone, it needs replacing.
Assess both together: a new coupling fitted to a worn-out ball will continue to rattle.
Lubrication: The ball and coupling wear out much faster if left dry. An important exception is anti-sway couplings: their friction linings must remain grease-free; in this case, only the ball is cleaned. Grease on the linings renders the anti-sway damping ineffective and ruins the linings.
A worn-out pair will be flagged during the annual general inspection. Replacement: Ball couplings and accessories.
