If the drum is off anyway, it’s worth taking care of everything that’s now exposed:
- Always replace them in pairs, never just on one side — otherwise the trailer will pull to one side when braking.
- Check the brake drum: for grooves, cracks and internal diameter. A worn drum will quickly wear down new brake shoes. Replacement: brake drums.
- Assess the wheel bearings — play, running noise, condition of the grease. Wheel bearings can only be accessed later by dismantling the wheel again.
- Check the brake cables. Stiff cables render any new brake shoes ineffective. Available: brake cables.
What’s included in our kits:
- Each of our brake shoe kits already includes the matching set of springs — you do not need to order springs separately.
- In addition, there is the Super Kit brake shoe set: this also includes the small parts that are typically damaged or worn out during dismantling — spreader lock, mounting eyes, return lever, adjustment nut, bearing pins, split pins, cover plates and plugs. If the brake hasn’t been opened for a long time or is rusted, this will save you from having to place a second order.
- We stock individual spring sets in case only the springs are worn out and the brake pads are still in good condition.
After fitting: adjust the brake and run it in. The first adjustment is often required after around 1,000 km.
