The SPP ball coupling is a robust and reliable solution for trailers with a gross vehicle weight rating of up to 3000 kg. With a drawbar load of up to 150 kg, it ensures a secure and stable connection between the trailer and towing vehicle. The coupling has an integrated wear indicator that allows the condition of the coupling to be checked quickly. Thanks to the adapters supplied, the ball coupling is suitable for towing tubes with diameters of 35, 40, 45 and 50 mm. Installation is flexible and can be carried out with either a horizontal or cross-shaped screw connection. The hole spacing is 40 mm for the cross-shaped screw connection and 54 mm for horizontal fastening; the holes have a diameter of 12.5 mm. The scope of delivery includes the ball coupling itself, three adapters for different pipe diameters, two fastening screws, two lock nuts and four washers. This comprehensive range of equipment makes installation easier and offers a wide range of possible applications.
Frequently asked questions about this product
Ball head on the towing vehicle: The new ball head has a diameter of 50 mm; the wear limit is 49 mm. Measure in several directions using a calliper — the ball wears down in an oval shape, and even a single point measuring less than 49 mm means it needs replacing.
Tow ball coupling on the trailer: Signs include noticeable play on the ball, rattling whilst driving, or a coupling that no longer engages properly. Many couplings have a wear indicator on the handle — if the pointer is in the red zone, it needs replacing.
Assess both together: a new coupling fitted to a worn-out ball will continue to rattle.
Lubrication: The ball and coupling wear out much faster if left dry. An important exception is anti-sway couplings: their friction linings must remain grease-free; in this case, only the ball is cleaned. Grease on the linings renders the anti-sway damping ineffective and ruins the linings.
