The AL-KO left-hand handle shell is an original spare part for the AKS 2004/3004 stabiliser coupling. It is used where the left-hand handle section needs to be replaced or repaired. As a suitable spare part, it ensures safe handling and reliable operation of the coupling. The handle cover is suitable for trailers where the left-hand handle is worn, damaged or no longer engages properly. As the fixing hardware is not supplied, the existing bolt should be checked for length, thread and condition before fitting. For fitting, use an M8 x 100 mm bolt or nut suitable for the specific application. Ensure the fitting is secure and that there is free movement to maintain the stabiliser coupling's functionality. The AL-KO handle shell is designed as a left-hand component and therefore does not need to be swapped with the right-hand side. The dimensions of 205 x 73 x 60 mm provide an overview of the approximate size of the spare part. This product is a genuine AL-KO part and is intended for garages, caravans and trailers that wish to maintain a fully functional coupling in a tested condition.

Frequently asked questions about this product
Ball head on the towing vehicle: The new ball head has a diameter of 50 mm; the wear limit is 49 mm. Measure in several directions using a calliper — the ball wears down in an oval shape, and even a single point measuring less than 49 mm means it needs replacing.
Tow ball coupling on the trailer: Signs include noticeable play on the ball, rattling whilst driving, or a coupling that no longer engages properly. Many couplings have a wear indicator on the handle — if the pointer is in the red zone, it needs replacing.
Assess both together: a new coupling fitted to a worn-out ball will continue to rattle.
Lubrication: The ball and coupling wear out much faster if left dry. An important exception is anti-sway couplings: their friction linings must remain grease-free; in this case, only the ball is cleaned. Grease on the linings renders the anti-sway damping ineffective and ruins the linings.
A worn-out pair will be flagged during the annual general inspection. Replacement: Ball couplings and accessories.
