Benefits and applications
The DURO HF-217 has been specially developed for use on hay tedders in agriculture and horticulture. The 4PR construction provides a solid load capacity of up to 470 kg and good resistance to stresses in daily work. The tubeless (TL) design allows operation without an inner tube, which can reduce maintenance effort and susceptibility to punctures.
With its diameter of 460 mm and width of 220 mm, the tyre offers a stable contact patch and thus good soil protection – ideal for meadows and grassland. The speed index A3 and the maximum speed of 15 km/h make it ideal for slow, controlled driving in work operations.
Explanation of technical terms
- TL (Tubeless): Tyre that is used without a separate tube. The air is contained directly in the tyre.
- TT (Tube Type): Designates tyres that are used with a separate tube (here only as a term explanation, this tyre is TL).
- PR (Ply Rating): Indicates the load capacity class or the "ply rating" of the tyre. Higher PR values generally mean higher load capacity.
- SI (Speed Index): Indicates the maximum permissible driving speed of the tyre. A3 here corresponds to a maximum speed of 15 km/h.
Frequently asked questions about this product
Age: Trailer tyres age more as a result of being left stationary than from the number of kilometres travelled. It is advisable to replace them after around six years, even if the tread is still in good condition; for trailers approved for 100 km/h, this is mandatory. The date of manufacture is shown as a DOT number on the sidewall: 3223 means the 32nd calendar week of 2023.
Load capacity (Load Index, LI): The number before the letter indicates the load capacity per tyre. The fitted tyre must meet at least the value stated in the vehicle documents — a higher value is permitted, but a lower one is not.

Speed index: The letter following the load index indicates the maximum permitted speed. An ‘L’ is required for a 100 km/h rating.

Winter tyres: There is no requirement for winter tyres on trailers, as the wheels are not driven. An M+S or Alpine symbol is not required.
Tyre pressure: Trailer tyres require significantly higher pressure than car tyres. The correct pressure is specified in the vehicle documents or on the sticker on the trailer. Insufficient pressure is the most common cause of tyre damage.
Tread depth: the legal minimum is 1.6 mm. You can also recognise old tyres by fine cracks in the sidewall and tread base.
Replacement: Tyres and complete wheels.
