Knott AV50 ball coupling with lock Ø50, 12.5/12.5 holes for Ifor Williams
Product.Nr.: 990017725
- Knott AV50 ball coupling for trailer drawbar Ø50 mm
- With integrated lock for theft protection (locks the coupling)
- Suitable for high trailer loads up to 2700 kg
- Suitable for Ifor Williams (with Ø50 drawbar and matching hole pattern)
- Bright galvanized for improved corrosion protection
The Knott AV50 ball coupling is a robust coupling solution for braked trailers with a 50 mm round drawbar. Thanks to the integrated lock, the coupling can be secured against unauthorized coupling and uncoupling - ideal for everyday use, on construction sites or when parking the trailer.
Thanks to the sturdy cast iron design and the galvanized surface, the coupling is designed for demanding conditions. The hole pattern with one horizontal and one vertical bore enables secure bolting to the drawbar.
Note: The D-/Dc value (in kN) is the ECE-relevant characteristic value for the permissible tractive load of the coupling depending on vehicle and trailer weight.

Frequently asked questions about this product
Ball head on the towing vehicle: The new ball head has a diameter of 50 mm; the wear limit is 49 mm. Measure in several directions using a calliper — the ball wears down in an oval shape, and even a single point measuring less than 49 mm means it needs replacing.
Tow ball coupling on the trailer: Signs include noticeable play on the ball, rattling whilst driving, or a coupling that no longer engages properly. Many couplings have a wear indicator on the handle — if the pointer is in the red zone, it needs replacing.
Assess both together: a new coupling fitted to a worn-out ball will continue to rattle.
Lubrication: The ball and coupling wear out much faster if left dry. An important exception is anti-sway couplings: their friction linings must remain grease-free; in this case, only the ball is cleaned. Grease on the linings renders the anti-sway damping ineffective and ruins the linings.
A worn-out pair will be flagged during the annual general inspection. Replacement: Ball couplings and accessories.
